Cared for it only gets better

Vegetable tanned leather has a natural, open surface, the quality that lets it age so beautifully, and the reason a little care goes a long way. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth after use. For marks, use a barely damp cloth, working gently from the outside in, and never scrub or use soap, alcohol or chemical cleaners. Made to live outdoors, it takes rain and daily life in its stride. If it does get thoroughly wet, simply pat it dry and let it air dry on its own, which keeps the surface looking its best as it ages. Every few months, work in a small amount of a quality leather balm or conditioner to feed the leather and keep it from drying out. Keep it out of direct sun and away from heat. With time and use it will darken and deepen into a patina that is yours alone.

A few small things go a long way. Let leather dry naturally if it gets wet, never by a radiator or in the sun. When you are not using a piece, keep it in the cotton bag it arrived in, which lets the leather breathe while keeping dust and light away. A cool, dry spot is ideal, far better than a sealed drawer or plastic. And handle your pieces often. With leather, regular wear is its own kind of care, working in the natural oils that keep it supple and alive.
